If you’re anything like us then the calendar changing from 2020 to 2021 was a major starting point. A time to shake off those negative vibes, bad habits, and doubt about the future from last year and begin the next chapter. Like most years, by now, that new excitement from the new year beginning is dwindling. As things slowly improve, it’s possible to slip back into those 2020 habits and continue on. The thing is, you can’t do that. Even though things aren’t majorly different, you still can be!!!! You made it through 2020, you are mentally stronger now than ever and it’s time to use that tenacity to power you toward your goals no matter what.
As the great Tom Brady once said (Tampa bay is our home so we have to support our guy), “We didn’t come this far to only come this far.” Even though we’re CrossFit enthusiasts, you have to respect someone who goes all-in every day, and you can too.
This year, our team at BANDZ wants to see you become the absolute BEST version of yourself, so here are some awesome tips & tricks we came up with to make sure you’re waking up determined and going to bed excited for each new day.
Be Specific With Your Goals
When it comes to your 2021 goals, don’t simply make them, “I want to be healthier,” or “I want to get in better shape.” Add some numbers. “I want to lose X amount of pounds.” “I want to squat X amount of reps at X” From there, you can lay out your road map to accomplish your goals. This tip is critical to your overall success. Consider the foods you consume, how you spend your free time, and more to make sure you’re really being thoughtful with your plans.
Strength In Numbers
As members of the CrossFit community in our city, and supporters of those around the country, we know for sure that when a group of people are all climbing the same mountain, the odds of everyone accomplishing their goals are hugely increased. Find an awesome gym to workout at, someone who can be a great workout partner or a coach to hold you accountable. The more people you have by your side, the greater the chances of you demolishing your goals.
Track Your Progress
The best way to see how far you’ve come since day one is to track your progress. Record your workouts, how you felt during them, and numerical details, such as the number of reps you accomplish/times you hit and what you ate that day. This will allow you to look back and appreciate how your hard work is impacting your overall fitness. Not only will this help you keep up with your workouts successfully on a day-to-day basis, but it can be incredibly motivating to know that your hard work is paying off and you’re seeing real, tangible results. These “small” results are what lead to monumental accomplishments.
Mix it Up
If your workouts are feeling too mundane and boring, mix it up! Perhaps hitting the same WODs every month is becoming a drag. Maybe add in a bit more cardio or heavier lifting to add a little spark. Perhaps even an evening walk to get the blood flowing is what you need. Simply clearing your head and trying something outside the box could be the reset button you need to keep on putting in the work.
Make Fitness a Priority
Too often, especially in 2020, people skip their workouts. This could be due to stress, work, or pleasure, which is totally understandable. All of those are reasons to put working out on the back burner, however, there is always time to get a sweat in, even if you only have a few minutes. Short on time? Knock out some bodyweight exercises before bed. Feeling stressed? Go for a run and give your mind a break. Want to spend some time with your friends? Get them off of the couch and into the gym! There is always a way to make it happen and your body will thank you. It’s too easy to push off working out for having fun, but it’s absolutely possible to find a balance that works for you.
If time is an issue for you, create a schedule mapping out your day and set aside some time to workout. This will allow you to visualize how your activities will look and will make sure you don’t have an excuse to simply, “Grab some beer with the boys.” Get your bros/girls into the gym with you for a quick training session and then hit the town (BANDZ are perfect for both activities, yes, this is an amazing soft sell).
